"The main conflict of this story is to find a serial killer before he/she kills more people. This problem started before the book even began. This is a confict because the book is about finding the killer so it will play out through out the story and not in one chapter. This was even said at the back of the book as it writes, "...someone is murdering families again, re-crating in detail Blackwood's crimes."
Obviously the main character is trying to solve this case as he is a detective so thats all he is doing at the moment. The conflict is both internal and external as the murders just started happening and continues as the story progresses and the one solving the case was involved in a similar situation when he was a teenager as said at the back yet again. It states, "Homicide detective, John Calino is certain that his own family-his wife and three children-will be targets, just as his parents and sisters were victims on that distant night when he was fourteen and killed their slayer.
